Are you a list person? I am. I think I got it from my Mom. I remember watching her write out her impressive lists and then check things off. Now I do the same, but instead of writing them out, I type them on my phone.
Recently, I came across a Harvard Business Review article about lists that highlights why lists are so helpful.
“Once we commit to a specific plan of action to complete a task, we tend to think less about that task… Essentially, when we create a roadmap to help us reach a goal, we are more likely to attain it and more likely to focus better on other areas of our work or lives in the interim.”
This week, let’s Talk About the power of lists.
3 Things to Talk About this week:
- “The Checklist Manifesto”
- Rob’s 9-step list of creating exceptional presentations
- Your “Online Meeting Prep” checklist
1️⃣ The Checklist Manifesto
I LOVE this book.
In “The Checklist Manifesto,” author Atul Gawande (surgeon, NewYorker writer, book author) shares examples from different industries–medical, aviation, business, and various crises!- showing how the simple checklist is an effective tool.
OK, perhaps the reason I love this book is that it validates my dependence on checklists. But the examples are pretty compelling – from pre-flight checklists for pilots and astronauts, to a surgical prep list from the World Health Organization. And Gawade is a mighty good storyteller.
