Recently on social media I shared a post of myself on a recent vacation with a cast on my wrist. I used this post to talk about sharing your personal life at work, but it created some unintended and positive results!

People reached out to check in, to hear the story, to find out how I was… and I had some great conversations with people whom I haven’t spoken in ages.  THANK YOU for checking in!

Talk About Talk - Andrea Wojnicki - Episode 155 - The Currency of Gratitude with Michele Bailey - Andrea on beach, one arm in a cast, the other holding up a coconut

Here’s the scoop: It happened in Costa Rica when I was sea-kayaking. I was in shallow water when a big wave crashed into me. I braced myself for impact, but the wave won. Compound fracture of the right radius.

I’m very GRATEFUL to my son, who stood by my side as I went into surgery in a foreign country. I’m also GRATEFUL to my new friends (Stacey & Kevin) who looked after my daughter at the resort while I was in the hospital. Not to mention the amazing surgeon who implanted a metal plate, and who followed up with me, even a few weeks later via WhatsApp. THANK YOU!

As my wrist heals, my dictation skills have taken off.  So I suppose I’m also GRATEFUL for technology.

Which brings me to this week’s newsletter topic:  GRATITUDE!

3 Things to Talk About this week:

  1. Just Do It!
  2. Thank your personal brand ambassadors
  3. The Currency of Gratitude by Michele Bailey

1️⃣ Just Do It!

Talk About Talk - Andrea Wojnicki - Episode 155 - The Currency of Gratitude with Michele Bailey - Quote Plaque - “You can change a relationship with someone in your professional or personal life in less than 5 minutes. Don't overthink it. Just do it. Just write it. Just call them. Just e-mail. Five minutes and watch what happens. This is the power of gratitude.”

Introducing my new friend, Michele Bailey, founder of the Blazing agency and my guest on this week’s Talk About Talk podcast episode on communicating GRATITUDE. Michele literally wrote the book on gratitude. It’s called “The Currency of Gratitude“. (More below)

You know those thank you notes your mother always wanted you to write? Of course she was right – they DO make a difference.

Expressing gratitude for something, out loud (or via a hand-written card), to another person is immensely impactful.

So as Michele Bailey suggests….JUST DO IT.  Express your gratitude for someone or something right now.  (Well, maybe after you finish reading this newsletter….)

2️⃣ Thank your personal brand ambassadors

Talk About Talk - Andrea Wojnicki - Episode 155 - The Currency of Gratitude with Michele Bailey - Andrea holds up a sign with the question "Who are your personal brand ambassadors?"

As you can imagine, my ears perked up when Michele Bailey mentioned the significance of our personal brand ambassadors.

What is a “PERSONAL BRAND AMBASSADOR“?

A personal brand ambassador is someone in your network who has accelerating your career trajectory. They may have:

  • ✅ referred clients or customers to you
  • ✅ acted as a sponsor
  • ✅ actively recommended you &/or your business

If you haven’t done so already, make a list of your important brand ambassadors and make sure they understand how grateful you are.

THANK THEM!

3️⃣ The Currency of Gratitude by Michele Bailey

You can learn more of Michele’s insights on the currency of gratitude in this week’s Talk About Talk podcast ep.155 on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts. I also recommend her book, which includes more details and real-life examples.

One more comment about GRATITUDE. I’m very grateful to the many executives who participated in Personal Branding Bootcamps over the past several years. Many of them have come back to me to ask: what’s next? I’m excited to announce in May we’ll launch the inaugural Executive Presence Bootcamp for leaders. This is your opportunity to take your communication skills to the next level. More information below, including an early bird discount if you register before April 20.

As always, if you have comments about this newsletter or the podcast, please email me or message me on LinkedIn. I love hearing from you!

Have a great week.
